In a rapidly changing technological world, we need to equip THE NEXT GENERATION with the future skills, entrepreneurial mindsets and practical STEM knowledge they Will need to lead, succeed and thrive in their future careers.
The education system is doing what it can to keep up with this pace of change, but we need more real-world, industry-aligned learning so that young people can navigate ever more complex careers in the shifting world economy, and build the critical 21st enterprise skills they’ll need to become our city and regional job creators, not just job seekers.
After the huge success of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 girledworld World of Work Summits at The University of Melbourne, RMIT and the University of Sydney, supported by the Australian Federal and Victorian State governments, the girledworld Innovation Summit 2019 will ignite the City of Greater Geelong for three transformational days of community future forums, international speakers, innovation and design thinking workshops and future career pathway planning for students (Year 7 - Year 12).
The Innovation Summit will be held at on Friday May 10, Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12 at the Geelong Football Club and PivotCity Runway venues, and will bring together top global speakers (keynotes and virtual keynotes) from some of the world's biggest companies (Twitter, Airbnb, Atlassian, Microsoft, PwC, Square), Australian industry experts and outstanding local region career mentors to help students explore the new World of Work, what future cities will look like (Internet of Things), career pathways in the emerging technology and STEM sectors, and will unpack the 21st Century enterprise skills students can start to build now to ensure future tertiary pathways, regional and city internship opportunities and future employability.
This event is aligned to the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities, Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies learning areas, and recognises the importance of the development of disciplinary knowledge, real world enterprise skills (critical thinking, problem solving and Design Thinking) and general cross-curriculum capabilities in young people (See below).
