In a rapidly changing technological world, we need to equip THE NEXT GENERATION with the future skills, entrepreneurial mindsets and practical STEM knowledge they Will need to lead, succeed and thrive in their future careers.

The education system is doing what it can to keep up with this pace of change, but we need more opportunities for real-world, industry-aligned learning so that young people can navigate ever more complex careers in the shifting world economy, and build the critical 21st Century enterprise and STEM skills they’ll need to become our city and regional job creators, not just job seekers.

After the huge success of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 girledworld World of Work Summits at The University of Melbourne, RMIT and the University of Sydney, supported by the Australian Federal and Victorian State governments, the girledworld Geelong Youth Innovation Summit 2019 ignited the City of Greater Geelong with international speakers, innovation and Design Thinking workshops and future career pathway planning for students (Year 7 - Year 12). Tertiary students were also welcomed to the event.

The Innovation Summit was held on Saturday May 11 (Geelong Football Club) and Sunday May 12 (PivotCity Runway HQ Geelong) venues, and brought together top global speakers (live and virtual keynotes) from some of the world's biggest companies (Envato, Culture Amp, Startup Victoria, Twitter, Airbnb, Atlassian, Microsoft, PwC), Australian industry experts and outstanding local region career mentors to help students explore the new World of Work, career pathways in the emerging technology and STEM sectors, and gave students an opportunity to understand the 21st Century enterprise skills they will need to start to build now to ensure future tertiary pathways, regional and city internship opportunities and future employability.

This event was aligned to the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities, Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies learning areas, and recognises the importance of the development of disciplinary knowledge, real world enterprise skills (critical thinking, problem solving and Design Thinking) and general cross-curriculum capabilities in young people.
